Qualified
with an OND in Design for Print in 1980 (before
the 'DTP' phrase was invented and the digital revolution evolved)
back when cut'n'paste was literally scalpels, glue & bromide
film. Progressed into the music industry as a drummer with
his band H2O [TOTP highest UK entry #17 ::
"I Dream To Sleep"] then approximately
ten years later returned to illustration as a mature student
when qualifying with an HND in Scientific & Technical
Graphics in 1990.
Worked freelance as an airbrish illustrator until being asked to join one of the few PC based bureaux (C:Graph Ltd.) in the UK at that time.
Joined Aldus Europe Ltd. (developers of PageMaker) in 1993, progressing from Prepress Technical Support to Quality Assurance Engineering. Survived the merger/acquisition of Aldus & Adobe Systems in 1995 and became one of a team of six European Product Support Engineers (3rd Level) for Prepress, Frame & Vector technologies - if you still have access to Adobe Illustrator 7.x / 8.x you'll see his name in the Developer credits. When Adobe Europe HQ was closed, due to the World HQ in San José down-sizing & centralising the company in 2000, he joined Picsel Technologies as their Technical Author & graphics specialist. Unfortunately further redundancies occurred in the technology industry because of the global economic situation, resulting in him returning to working as a freelance graphics specialist in 2002, which is when dormanDesign was born.
